Spark plugs play a crucial role in igniting or starting an engine in automobiles. They need to be in perfect condition for optimal performance and safety of the automobile engine. If they are used beyond their lifespan or after heavy corrosion, they may damage the engine and create additional problems.
The signs of failing spark plugs can be slow acceleration, more fuel consumption, struggling engine, rough idle, etc. The usual lifespan of spark plugs ranges between 60,000 to 90,000 kilometers. But it varies with the brand, usage, model, etc. Many spark plugs now have an extended life. They are marginally costly but provide more benefits than ‘standard’ spark plugs.
